11 - 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

# Directions:

01 - Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a medium baking dish with butter.
02 - Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in milk, cream, salt, pepper, and nutmeg if using. Warm gently without boiling, then remove from heat.
03 - Arrange half the potato slices evenly in the baking dish. Top with half the sliced onions and half the grated cheese.
04 - Add remaining potatoes, onions, and cheese in layers as before.
05 - Pour the warm milk and cream sauce evenly over the layered ingredients.
06 - Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes.
07 - Remove foil and continue baking for another 20 minutes until the top is golden and potatoes are tender.
08 - Allow to rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
