Mango Lassi with Cardamom (Printable Version)

Silky mango blended with yogurt, cardamom, and honey for a chilled, aromatic Indian-style drink.

# Ingredient List:

→ Fruit & Dairy

01 - 1 1/2 cups ripe mango, peeled and diced (fresh or frozen)
02 - 1 cup plain yogurt (whole-milk or low-fat)
03 - 1/2 cup milk (dairy or unsweetened plant-based)

→ Sweetener & Flavors

04 - 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
05 - 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
06 - 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon or lime juice (optional)

→ For Serving

07 - 1/2 cup ice cubes (optional, for a thicker smoothie)
08 - Pinch ground cardamom or 1 tablespoon chopped pistachios (optional garnish)

# Directions:

01 - If using fresh mango, peel and dice into uniform pieces. Measure yogurt, milk, sweetener and spices and have them ready near the blender.
02 - Place mango, yogurt, milk, honey or maple syrup, ground cardamom and lemon or lime juice (if using) into the blender. Secure lid and blend on high until completely smooth and homogenous.
03 - If you prefer a thicker, colder drink add about 1/2 cup ice and blend again until incorporated; if too thick, add a splash of milk and blend briefly.
04 - Taste and adjust sweetness or cardamom as needed, adding small increments and blending briefly after each adjustment.
05 - Divide between two glasses, garnish with a pinch of ground cardamom or chopped pistachios if desired, and serve immediately.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • The blend of fragrant cardamom with sweet mango feels like a vacation in a glass and is my go-to secret for beating summer heat.
  • It takes just minutes, so you can treat yourself to something special any day of the week.
02 -
  • Blending too long with ice can water things down and mute the flavors—stop as soon as everything is just smooth.
  • Starting with less cardamom is wise: too much, and it can tip the smoothie from dreamy to overpowering.
03 -
  • I’ve found that freezing chunks of fresh mango ahead gives the thickest, coldest blend without needing extra ice.
  • For maximum aroma, grind whole cardamom pods just before adding—totally worth the tiny bit of extra effort.
